The Hawkesbury River was named in 1789 by Governor Arthur Phillip, the first governor of the British colony of New South Wales in honour of Charles Jenkinson, first Earl of Liverpool, Baron Hawkesbury, who was at the time, the President of the Board of Trade and Plantations in England.
The region includes the Local Government Areas of Hawkesbury, Baulkham Hills, Gosford and Hornsby.
The database is not designed to provide a comprehensive history of each entry but to document its existence and provide a starting point for local and family history researcher.
A wide variety of information is included, some purely anecdotal such as ….whilst other material has been drawn from ‘official sources’ such as Historic Records of Australia and census records.

The website has been designed and created by Nicholas McHardy who works as a software programmer and developer in the corporate information technology industry.
Information for the site has been researched and entered by local historian, Cathy McHardy with assistance from family members, Geoff McHardy and Rebecca McHardy.
Contributors to this project include many local and family history researchers including Michelle Nichols, Marj Clarke, Robynne Winley, Trish Downes, Jill & Don Mills, Jan Barkley-Jack.
