The cottage known as Eltham is located at 317 Windsor Street, Richmond, New South Wales. Several outbuildings also survive on this site. This elegant colonial Georgian townhouse has an interesting history. The first title holder of this allotment was William Prestnell in 1841.

The cottage known as Eltham at 317 Windsor Street, Richmond, NSW still retains the bay windows which were added during the ownership of Frank Vindin in 1895. Cathy McHardy August 2013
Occupation of this location dates from an earlier period when Thomas Eather opened an inn known as the Union Inn on this site the 1830s. The sign depicted three women representing the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and was the work of Tom Masters who also painted the sign for the Black Horse Inn further down Windsor Street on the corner with Bosworth Street. This building served many purposes over the years including a saddlery operated by George Guest and a doctor’s surgery operated by Dr Helsham.
In 1888, the building was purchased from Andrew Town for the purpose of setting up the new branch by Francis Adams, General Manager of the Australian Joint Stock Bank. Under Vindin’s successful leadership the bank soon outgrew its location and in 1892 the branch relocated to the former Post Office Hotel site on the corner of Windsor and West Markets Streets. In 1895 Frank Vindin purchased the old bank premises for £800. He commissioned alterations in keeping with a family home rather than commercial premises, such as the replacement of the two shop windows at the front by a fashionable bay window.
It is listed No. 1125 on the Hawkesbury City Council Local Environmental Plan as an item of local heritage significance.
The construction of the cottage features a gabled iron roof with chimneys at each end and a hipped verandah six bays wide supported on turned timber columns.
