Hawkesbury People & Places A cave on the south side of the Colo River. Located about 1 km S by E of Parr South Trig. Station and about 3 km NE by E of Mount D’Arcy. Mailes Cave is located on the southern bank of the Colo River, New South Wales. The name was gazetted by the New South Wales Geographical Names Board in November 1975 along with Mailes Ridge. A mistake was made in the spelling of the names and should correctly be Males Cave and Males Ridge after George Thomas Males who assisted in the survey of the area. His obituary was published in the Windsor and Richmond Gazette on the 23 October 1957: It is with very deep regret we record the death of an old and esteemed identity of this district, Mr George Thomas Males, of Kurrajong, on October 17 at his son-in-law’s (Cecil Shepherd) residence. Formerly of Colo, the late Mr Males was 85 years of age. He was predeceased by his wife and one son (Phillip). He is mourned by his sons Arthur (Upper Colo) and Sid Kurrajong), and daughters, Mesdames A Parker, D Roberts, C Shepherd (all of Kurrajong) and E Simmons (Windsor), and Val (Sackviile), to all of whom district friends extend their very sincere sympathy. The funeral cortege moved from Christ Church, Kurrajong, after service in the Church on October 18, for the Independent portion of the Richmond cemetery. Please make your comment below.
