An area of three thousand acres of Pitt Town Common was resumed for settlement in 1890. In September 1893 the area was suveyed by Mr G M Pitt for Village Settlement purposes. An area of 240 acres was set aside for the refuge of stock in times of flooding, an area as a general cemetery, quarries and a permanent common. The area was divided into lots ranging from between 30 and 40 acres each, The Pitt Town Village Settlement area later became known as Scheyville.
