Cyrus William Liddy was born in 1863 at McGraths Hill, NSW and his mother was Mary Liddy or Mary O’Brien, however the name of his father is unknown. Cyrus Liddy married Christina Lysaght in Broken Hill in 1891 and no children of the marriage are known. Cyrus joined the police force and was stationed in Broken Hill area when a terrible accident took place. Liddy had been in charge of the police station in Euriowie for about 4 years and was a very popular and respected member of the community. Constable Liddy was driving with friends in a buggy to meet the train at Tarrawingee when the brake gave way coming down a hill and the horses bolted. Liddy was thrown to the ground and he was rendered unconscious. He never regained consciousness and died the next day. He was buried in an unmarked grave in Broken Hill Cemetery.
